Making a difference for that ONE

This Sunday at Midway UMC is going to be one of those holy mornings we will not soon forget. Our Lay Leader, Randy Morris, will be preaching from Matthew 9 and sharing the powerful Starfish Thrower video. You know the story. A young person is walking along the beach throwing starfish back into the ocean, one by one. Someone points out that there are miles and miles of beach and too many starfish to save. The young person throws one more back into the water and says, “It made a difference for that one.” That is the heart of the gospel. We may not be able to fix everything at once, but love always reaches for the one in front of us.

This Sunday, that love will be alive all around us as our friends from DCRA help lead worship as acolytes, ushers, liturgists, and singers. They have not just visited Midway. They have faithfully participated in the life of this church. They have worshiped with us, served with us, laughed with us, prayed with us, and become family with us. This Sunday, we will officially welcome them into membership at Midway UMC. Some will join by baptism, some by profession of faith, and some by transfer. What a joy. What a gift. What a witness to the kingdom of God.

At Midway, we believe every person is created in the imago Dei, the image of God. That means our neurodivergent and mentally challenged friends do not stand on the edges of the church. They belong right in the heart of the family. This Sunday, we will celebrate the beautiful diversity of God’s people and open our arms wide to say, “You are loved. You are seen. You are home.” Come ready to worship, come ready to celebrate, and come ready to be changed. Breakfast is at 9:30, Sunday School is at 10, and worship is at 11. You do not want to miss this powerful day at Midway.

GRACE AND PEACE because grace always goes before peace,

Pastor Sharon.
