The Story Abides

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, and I know, for some of us, that word Trinity can feel like one of those church words we are supposed to understand but are afraid to explain out loud. The Bible never gives us a neat little definition that says, “Here is the Trinity.” But what Scripture does give us is something far better than a definition. It gives us a story. From the very beginning, Genesis invites us into the wonder of a God who creates, speaks, breathes, blesses, and calls creation good. God is not distant or still. God is moving. God is speaking. God is breathing life into the world.

In Genesis, the Spirit of God hovers over the waters, stirring with holy possibility. God speaks, “Let there be,” and creation begins to unfold. Then in Matthew 28, the risen Jesus sends the disciples out in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That means Trinity is not just something we believe, it is something we are invited to live. God creates, Christ sends, and the Spirit empowers. The life of God is love in motion, and we are called to join that movement with our whole lives.

That is where Peace with Justice Sunday meets Trinity Sunday so beautifully. If God is still creating, still speaking, still breathing, and still sending, then we cannot be people who simply admire the beauty of creation or talk about peace from a distance. Awe becomes responsibility. Worship becomes witness. Faith becomes footsteps. Like those who walk for peace, pray for justice, feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and care for creation, we are invited to become partners in God’s ongoing work. The Trinity is not a puzzle to solve. The Trinity is a relationship to enter, a movement to follow, and a love to carry into the world.

Grace and peace because grace always goes before peace,
