Better Is One Day
Rule of Life Week 3: Worship
Scripture: Psalm 84:8–12
Big Idea: True worship is not about where we are but about who God is, and being near Him is better than anything else the world can offer. True worship is the only we can give God that He hasn’t first given us.
Have you ever had a moment when you longed to be somewhere: home after a long trip, reunited with family, or sitting in your favorite spot of peace and rest? That longing can be powerful. The writer of Psalm 84 describes a longing even deeper than these, the desire to be near God.
This Sunday at Midway UMC, we continue our Rule of Life series with Week 3: Worship. Our passage, Psalm 84:8–12, reminds us that worship is not confined to songs, prayers, or a sanctuary. Worship is the orientation of our lives toward God. The psalmist proclaims, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” In other words, just one moment in God’s presence is worth more than a lifetime of worldly comfort or success.
In a culture filled with distractions and false promises, we need this reminder: true worship is not about a place, but about a Person. It is not about where we stand, but who we stand with. God is our sun and shield, our grace and glory. When we trust Him, we discover joy that the world cannot give and cannot take away.
Join us this week as we reflect on what it means to live a life of worship. Together, we will discover again that being near God truly is better than anything else the world can offer.
We would love for you to come and experience this joy with us. See you Sunday!
