2025-11-27: Hanging of the Greens

Advent begins when we make room, not just on our calendars, but in our hearts, and one beautiful way to do that is through our Hanging of the Greens service. In this service, we decorate the sanctuary with evergreens, wreaths, and other signs of the season, and we name what they mean as we place them. The greens remind us that God’s love is everlasting, and the sanctuary becomes a living prayer that says, “Lord, we are readying your home to receive family, and preparing our lives for the coming of Christ.”

Later that same day, we will gather again for a Chrismon service, a time centered on the Chrismon tree decorated with symbols of Christ, like the Chi Rho, the cross, the fish, and Alpha and Omega. Each ornament is a handmade, simple witness; it’s a visual way to remember who Jesus is and why he came. The Chrismon Service helps us keep Christmas anchored in worship, not just in busyness.

You are warmly invited to join us on the first Sunday of Advent at Midway UMC. Come at 11am for Hanging of the Greens, and come back at 5:30 pm for our Chrismon service. Bring your family, bring a friend, and come let the season begin with scripture, song, and a sanctuary that tells the story of Jesus.

No one should be alone for the holidays, come to Midway where YOU are family. We will save a seat for you.

Grace and Peace because Grace always comes before peace, Pastor Sharon
